Route Planning and Customer Communication, replacing a manual workflow
Move Motorcycles are a Leading Specialist Motorcycle Transport Company, Move transport hundreds of Motorcycles each week between dealers and their customers throughout the UK in a fleet of specially adapted vans. Available route planning and optimisation packages were unable to cater for the complex nature of Moves daily planning and the manual aspects of the work became onerous as the business grew rapidly
Solution
A Blazor Server application built on Azure maps allows Move route planners to see all movement requirements displayed geographically in a rolling planning horizon based on the movements SLA. Azure functions sync bookings as they are made from the Move Booking system.Planned routes use azure maps to optimise driver routes for route timing allowing for predictable drivers hours and the ability for planners to view progress against plan on the days routes. The planning console also features customer communications using SMS to liaise with customers for suitable collection and delivery times and update customers through the delivery or collection process For trade customers a trade portal allows instant updates on the status of each delivery and an external api allows high volume customers to create delivery and collection requests directly from their sales systems.
The Outcome
Time spent on route planning has been greatly reduced, the customer and trade features together with a longer planning horizon have lead to a reduction in aborted movements. Move planners , Managers and Customers have live visibility of movement statuses they never had before.
Manager overview shows the status of all collections(circles), and Deliveries(droplets), colour coding shows allocated driver or unscheduled(white) or nearing SLA(red)
For the current day planners can see route progress against plan
Specialist workshop and customer management for vehicle restorations
Workshop PWA , Customer Communications Portal
Specialist car restoration is very different from standard commercial garage operations and commercially available systems do not cover their requirements. Customers may have multiple vehicles in progress over extended periods of time and the nature of the work requires frequent updates to customers to support decisions regarding work as the condition of vehicles and components becomes apparent as work progresses. Typically a series of stage payments has to be made for these larger projects complicating invoicing and billing.
Solution
A Blazor Server app featuring a secured customer area and a public facing website where registered customers can login to view the running status of their projects, communicate with the business regarding decisions and make stage payments. A blazor WASM based PWA deployed on Phones or tablets is used on the workshop floor or elsewhere and features offline sync to operate in poor coverage environments. During work technicians can take photos of projects to support questions and these are available directly to customers in the website portal to respond to. SMS notification can be used to alert customers of updates.
The Outcome
Time spent on customer updates is vastly reduced and the quality of the customer updates is improved. The cost capture feature in the PWA app allows technicians to record labour and parts costs immediately as they are used giving customers very up to date status of a projects costs. Management also benefit from a more up to date financial reporting
